This book has wonderful information for rughookers or even artists looking for a way to create realism. Cindi uses diagrams and examples from her personal hooked rugs to help the reader understand the importance of direction and proper color placement. Improper placement of colors or values can be the difference between a fabulous landscape that causes the eye to sweep across unending distances, or a flat concentration of colored landscape with no definition, movement or change in elevation. Foliage can add so much to a piece when it's done properly. It can gently soften corners or straight lines, and it can give a piece great texture and memory. Realism in a natural scene, most definitely depends upon a proper sky and foundation complete with grass and plants in order to give the on lookers eye a place to settle. Cindi allows the reader to clearly see the difference between hooking a tree being kissed by the morning sunrise, or one that is retiring for the night. It all comes down to placement, observation, shape, density and direction. This will be a forever reference in my rughooking library.
